CeRCCa, the Centre for Research and Creativity Casamarlès, is a non-profit
organization that has been developing research and artistic projects since
2009.
CeRCCa is based in an old house in Llorenç del Penedès, a 2000 inhabitant
village located in the Penedès region of Catalonia, a region known for its wine
and olive oil not far from Barcelona. Llorenç can be considered an average
village with no much charm integrated in contemporary processes of urban
and social transformation. Although it maintains its sense of community
through a strong presence of cultural organizations, this same community is
being challenged by urban expansion, industrial development and social
diversification making of the village and example of the new dialogues and
confrontations that have emerged through the processes that characterize
Globalization.
CeRCCa works with a double strategy. On one hand it provides living and
working space for artists and researchers through the Artist in Residency
Program. On the other CeRCCa develops research and curatorial projects
that have as a common denominator the critical reflection on the phenomenon
of cultural mobility while at the same time implements different initiatives that
reflect, theoretically and practically, about Artist in Residencies as a creative
model.
